I never thought I would use the words ‘beautiful bank holiday weather’ in a consecutive order in the same sentence, but I can today! This past bank holiday weekend we were invited to Brighton’s Foodies Festival, it’s the UK’s biggest food festival travelling across the country throughout Spring and Summer, and sees Michelin star chefs, top bakers and drink connoisseurs all combining their amazing products in one place (in one word: heaven). So, we took the 2 hour drive down to the coast and checked into the Hilton for a weekend full of delicious food and drink.
Usually, England’s bank holidays are almost always guaranteed rain, rain and more rain, but this one was glorious! We had hot sunshine all weekend (well, we did have 30 mins of downpour, beggars can’t be choosers) and I got an unsatisfying tan with serious panda eyes from wearing my sunglasses the whole time. Lets get into some outfit details before I start rambling – I opted for my All Saints 100% linen shirt in khaki green, I purchased the shirt last year and have worn it to death. It’s just the right amount of tailoring with flow, featuring breast pockets and square seam detailing. I threw on my ‘go-to’ denim of this season from ASOS, they’re a cropped kick flare style which I’m obsessed with at the minute. Paired with my bomber jacket, also from ASOS and in khaki green, the cropped length and puffa style added a touch of urbanity. I also grabbed my adidas stan smiths and Loewe puzzle bag to pull it all together.
We had LOTS of amazingly delicious food and drink at the Foodies Festival so I felt like a whale the whole of Saturday, so on Sunday we calmed down and stopped grabbing food in both hands from all directions. We took a walk down to the pier and grabbed cod and chips (to share) with a cool drink and ate contently in the company of, what felt like, 1 billion seagulls. We also rode a few amusement rides and got some ice cream so it was a great day to say the least. When I found out we’d been invited to the festival in Brighton, I immediately started planning the theme/mood of my shoot, I really wanted to pick up on the contrasts of the rusty, grey, infamous Brighton pier with the bold colours of the rock sweets and ice creams that you also instinctively relate to the seaside. I played with subtle patterns and exaggerated proportions with my outfit and saturation and colour in my photos so I hope you guys enjoy them.
