Convenience is a guys proverbial best friend (turns out it isn’t dogs, contrary to popular belief). This is especially true during summer, when anything more than crawling in and out of the shower, is a task too large to contemplate. We’re all looking for the perfect male grooming kit but any prompt to reveal my skincare routine is often met with a red-faced-wave-of-the-hand-half-chuckle in an attempt to brush it off and appear ‘low maintenance’ because that’s cool now, right?. But truly, when asked, my answer is usually “how much time do you have?”, because it could take me a day or two to explain it in its entirety. As a teen, I suffered with cystic acne and have been left with oily, spot prone skin (I apologise for the sudden plunge into a serious topic, it’s relevant, I promise) which caused me to use anything and everything with descriptions hinting they could S.M.S (save my skin). Fast forward 8 years later and I’ve tried almost every mens grooming kit but thankfully my skin lives happily ever after, but it’s not without it’s flaws.

This, in turn, encouraged me to make sure I knew as much as I could about the products I was using. That’s why I departed on an expedition to grooming essentiality in one big easy bunch. Because my two goals in life are a) obsessively closing apps on my iPhone, and b) literally giving as little thought as possible to my daily routine (because those 15 minutes could be spent staring square eyed at game of thrones). When it comes to style, men often form long-lasting bonds, like puppies clinging to comfort, to the clothing brands we consider “satisfactory” in our short list of requirements, (good fit, well made, that’s about it really…) and generally stay within that parameter. But when it comes to grooming, however, we tend to have a much flakier relationship.

Unlike slipping into a suit, where you immediately climb to at least a 6/10, grooming is a full-time endeavor. One which prospers with consistency, routine and balance. I think the key is balance, not just with the lotions and potions, but in all aspects of life (like eating salad after cake, makes you feel better, no?). Well balance and convenience are precisely what Mr Porter provide with the Mr Porter Travel Grooming Kit. The set is not only bursting at the seams with a specially curated selection of their leading products, but also comes in travel suitable sizes (tick), a handy portable translucent wash bag (tick) and instructions (enough to make any man happy). They remove any need to think (or in my case agonise) over what products to administer in order to obtain that ‘routine’ that everyone speaks about. From repair rescue serums and cologne soap, to purifying clay masks and invigorating cleansers, this kit of select everyday essentials has your entire routine covered. You can now groom like a pro, hasn’t that just made the whole thing easier?
