Tailoring calms me. By this, I mean wearing a suit, I don’t mean the kind of pinning, measuring and tapering you’d get on Saville Row. (Although I can be partial to the latter when staring, terrified, into the mirror while wearing an ill fitting jacket), (or a pair of trousers that don’t show that perfect slice of ankle). A suit just so happens to also be perfect for exploring the botanical & beautiful Kew Gardens.
What I’m trying to say is, that I feel my most confident and capable of world domination, when dressed in a great suit. In the early 19th century (dust off those history books kids), Beau Brummell refined and adapted the style of the suit, popularised it and lead to European men everywhere wearing well-cut, tailored clothing. (We can also thank Beau for introducing the first grooming concept of washing ourselves everyday, thanks B). Their appeal taps into my obsession with ‘effortless style’, suits are a ‘safe’ option, an ensemble that says “I got this” and holds open the door, the Ryan Gosling of fashion. Fair enough, they may not be take-you-on-a-club-crawling-night-of-horror (there’s a tonne of other choices for that), but you can count on them. Perfect for any occasion, transitioning from day to night, or visiting your local tropicals, you can do it all!
The fact that Topman provide such fantastically priced and luxurious quality suits in every colour, fit and style you could want for, makes it incredibly difficult to chose from. But surprise surprise, I chose (altogether now…) BLACK! The blazer is a classic slim fit with lapel stitch detail and the trousers are wide leg in crepe fabric (satisfy my longing for comfort). I chose to pair my suit with a knitted t-shirt from Zara, adidas sneakers and neck scarf from ASOS. You can shop my outfit by clicking the thumbnails below. Don’t just take my word for it, check out Topman’s range of suits here. The fact of the matter is, a suit is your saviour, your ‘go-to’, your best friend and light in the dark. So I guess it’s down to you to channel your inner Ryan (either Reynolds or Gosling, you chose) and suit up!
